Almatti Hydro Power Plant is commissioned in July 2005 with an approved capacity of 290 MW. The type of project is Major, since the capacity is greater than 25 Megawatt. The status of power plant is fully operational. The source of water for the generation of power is from Krishna River. The owner of the power plant is State Government of Karnataka. The power plant is operated by the company, Karnataka Power Corporation Limited.

The Beneficiary States of the power plant are Karnataka and its neighbouring states. The type of power house is ‘Power House on Right Toe of Dam’ and the type of plant is Dam on river with reservoir. The completion of Power Project was in 2005 and soon the commercial operation of the power plant is started. The type of turbine used in the plant is Vertical Kaplan. The maker of both Turbine and Generator of the power plant is by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited of India.

The unit sizes of the power plant is 290 Megawatt having 1 unit of 15 MW and 5 units of 55 MW each. There are six units in operation and all the six units are commissioned. The first unit is commissioned in 26 March 2004 with an installed capacity of 15 MW. Similarly the units from second to sixth units are commissioned in 04 November 2004, 13 January 2005, 26 March 2005, 06 July 2005 and 10 August 2005 respectively with an installed capacity of 55 Megawatt each.
