Anta Gas Power Station

Anta Gas Power Station.JPG

Anta Gas Power Station is a natural gas-utilized power station erected in Anta town of Baran district in Rajasthan. It is one among the natural gas power plant under the control of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). Natural Gas is a clean fuel, when compared to coal. It can be efficiently used for the generation of power. Due to the low quality and low calorific values, with high quantity of ash and adverse effect on environment, so it’s better for the central government to promote gas based power generation rather than using coal. The gas for it is obtained from GAIL HBJ Pipeline - South Basin Gas field, and its source of water is the Anta Kota Right Main Canal, Chambal River. The primary fuel utilized for the production of power is Natural Gas. The Anta Gas Power Station is owned by National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The approved capacity of Anta Gas Power Station is 413 Megawatt. Also the installed Capacity is 413 Megawatt.

The beneficiary states of Anta Gas Power Station other than Rajasthan are Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The approved investment on this gas based thermal power plant is 420 crore.

The Anta Gas Power Station currently has four generating units. They are Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3 and Unit 4. The first unit was commissioned in January 1989 with an installed capacity of 88 Megawatts (Gas Turbine). The Unit 2 is commissioned in March 1989 with an installed capacity of 88 Megawatts (Gas Turbine). Also Unit 3 is commissioned later in May 1989 with an installed capacity of 88 Megawatts (Gas Turbine). Finally the fourth unit is commissioned in March 1990 with an installed capacity of 149 Megawatt (Steam Turbine). The international Assistance for Anta Gas Power Station is by IBJ and World Bank. The shareholders of Anta Gas Power Station is Central Government, which is initiated in 1989.

The power plant has three ambient air quality observing stations and unique central station for observing climate factors. The requirement was to set up a central scheme for data gathering, complete status organisation, warnings and data archiving. In addition to this the data was essential to be sent to NTPC central office.

How to Reach: Nearest Railway Station is Baran. Nearest Airport is Sanganeer Airport (Jaipur Rajasthan), which is about 213 kilometers away from Baran. Other Nearest Airport is Bhopal Airport (Madhya Pradesh), which is 221 km away from Baran. The bus service is regularly available from other major cities of the district.
