Baglihar Stage- I Hydroelectric Project

Baglihar Stage- I Hydroelectric Project is on the Chenab River and is commissioned in 19 September 2008. The approved and installed capacity of the power plant is 450 MW. The type of project is Major, since the total capacity of power plant is greater than 25 Megawatt. The status of the power plant is operational. The source of water for the generation of power is Chenab River and the basin is Indus River. The power plant is situated in the North Hydroelectric Region. The purpose of Power Project is the generation of hydroelectric power. The power plant is owned by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited, which is an undertaking by the state government.

The beneficiary states of this hydroelectric power project are Jammu Kashmir and its neighbouring states of India. The Type of Power House is underground. The power project was completed in 2005. The type of Turbine used is Francis. The manufacturer of the Turbine of power plant is by the VA-TECH. Also the manufacturer of Generator is Voith Siemens of Brazil. There are three turbines in the power plant. The capacity per Turbine is 150 Megawatt. So the whole installed capacity of power plant is 450 Megawatt. The length of the Water Conductor System of Power Plant is around 2.08 km. The Rated Head of Turbine has a height of 125 m. The specific speed of power plant is 173.74 rpm.

The unit sizes of the power plant is 450 MW (3 units x 150 MW). There are three units in operation and all the three units are functional. The first unit is commissioned in 19 September 2008with an installed capacity of 150 Megawatt. Similarly the second and third units are commissioned in 26 October 2008 and 14 November 2008 respectively with an installed capacity of 150 MW for each units.

How to Reach:Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project is located near to Batote of Chanderkote in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir in the country. You can arrive this power station via road. The nearest railway station is Udhampur, which is 42.08 Kms away from Ramban town. There is no airport in the Ramban district and the nearest airport is Jammu Airport of Jammu district, which is 73.29 km away from Ramban.
