Bakreswar Thermal Power Plant West Bengal
Bakreswar Thermal Power Station, under the control of West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited is a coal based thermal power station with a total installed capacity of 1050 Megawatt. And also a unit expansion of 660 Megawatt is proposed.
Bakreshwar Thermal Power Station is commissioned in 17 July 1999. The Approved capacity of thermal power plant is 1050 Megawatt and the installed capacity is 1050 Megawatt. The status of the power plant is operational. The source of water is from the Dam of Bakreshwar River, called Neel Nirjan. The primary fuel used is coal. The thermal power plant is owned and operated by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation. The manufacture of Boiler, Turbine and Generator for the Bakreshwar Thermal Power Plant is done by the Itochu & BHEL with Larsen & Tubro constructing the coal handling plant. The plant is using the Super Critical Technique. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are West Bengal and its neighbouring states. A loan amount of 80.8 million yen or about INR 25 billion was provided by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation for the first three units. That is, Unit 1, 2 & 3.The unit sizes of this thermal power plant are 1050 Megawatt (210 Megawatt x 5). There are five units in operation. They are from Unit 1 to Unit 5.
The first unit is commissioned in 17 July 1999, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Similarly the second unit is commissioned in 2000, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. The third unit is commissioned in 2001, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. After that the fourth unit is commissioned in 2007, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Finally the fifth unit is commissioned in 2009, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. The sixth unit expansion is announced for the installation of 660 Megawatt.
