Bandel Thermal Power Station
Bandel Thermal Power Station is a coal fired power plant erected on the western bank of Hooghly River, in the Bansberia town, closer to theBandel in the state of West Bengal in India, which is 3 kilometres away from the Grand Trunk Road. The power plant is functioned by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL). At the time of its commissioning in 1983, its fifth unit was first of its type in Eastern India and fifth in India.
The Bandel Thermal Power Station is commissioned in September 4, 1965. The approved capacity of the thermal power plant is 450 Megawatt and the installed capacity is also 450 Megawatt. The status of the plant is Operational. The source of coal for the generation of power is from the Coal India Limited. Here 90% of the coal requirement is supplied by the indigenous mines and the rest of the coal is imported domestically or internationally. The source of water for the cooling of plant is provided by the Hooghly River. The primary fuel used is Coal. The Bandel Thermal Power Station is owned and operated by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation. The plant is using the Subcritical Technology. The Unit Sizes of the thermal power plant are 450 Megawatt (4 unit x 60 Megawatt, 1 unit x 210 Megawatt). There are five units in Operation. They are from Unit 1 to Unit 5. The first unit is commissioned in 4 September 1965 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. Similarly the second unit is commissioned in 18 October 1965 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. After that the third unit is commissioned in 17 February 1966 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. The fourth unit is commissioned in 3 August 1966 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. The fifth unit is commissioned in 20 March 1983 with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt.
