Bhusawal Thermal Power Station is situated at about eight kilometers away from the Bhusawal city of Jalgaon district in Maharashtra. The power plant is located in the town of Deepnagar, which literally means the ‘City of Lights’. The power plant is one of the famous coal fired power plants of Mahagenco.Bhusawal thermal power station has an installed and approved capacity of 1210 Megawatt. Mahagenco has further made an agreementwith BHEL for constructing the sixth unit with a capacity of 660 Megawatt. But it is later abandoned.

Bhusawal Thermal Power Station is commissioned in 1968 July. It has an approved capacity of 1210 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 1210 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is Operational. The primary fuel used for the production of power is coal. The Type of this thermal plant is Supercritical. The power plant is owned and operated by the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal plant are Maharashtra and its neighbouring states. The unit size of this thermal power plant is 1210 Megawatt (1 unit x 210 Megawatt + 2 units x 500 Megawatt). There are 3 units in Operation. They are Unit 3 to Unit 5.

In Stage 1, the first unit was commissioned in 1968 July with an installed capacity of 62.5 Megawatt. This unit is closed now. In Stage 2, two units are commissioned – Unit 2 and Unit 3. Unit 2 is retired and Unit 3 is Operational now. The second unit is commissioned in 1979 August with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. This unit is retired now. The third unit is commissioned in 1982 September with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. In Stage 3, two units are commissioned – Unit 4 and Unit 5, which are in Operational now. The fourth unit is commissioned in 2012 November with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. The fifth unit is commissioned in 2014 January with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. In Stage 4, Unit 6 is proposed with a capacity of 660 Megawatt. But it is abandoned, since it is not reported the Status as Under Construction.
