Bokaro A Thermal Power Station India
The Bokaro A thermal power station is situated at Bokaro district, Jharkhand, India. The total installed capacity of Bokaro A thermal power station is 500 MWe.
This is a fully operating power plant and the power plant is mainly used for base load in Bokaro district. This is a Sub critical thermal type power plant and coal is used as the primary fuel. Water from the river Konar is the main source of water and mercury control device is not used in this plant. The electric power grid from the plant is mainly connected to the national grid. Initially the plant has four different units and all the four different units are decommissioned in the year 2000. The first three units has an installed capacity of 45 MWe and the fourth unit has an installed capacity of 40 MWe. Units 1,2 and 3 had been de-rated from 57.5 MWe to 45Mwe. The fourth unit was de-rated from 75 to 40 MWe before shutdown. The first three units was commissioned in 1953 and the fourth unit was commissioned in 1960. In May 2016, the fifth unit of the plant (currently operating) was commissioned with an installed capacity of 500 MWe. The turbine, boiler and generator manufacturers was CE USA (for units 1,2 and 3) and MAN Germany (for unit 4). BHEL is the boiler, turbine and generator manufacturer of the fifth unit. The fifth unit has a capital cost of Rs.3000 Crores. This is a central government ownership power plant. Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is the owner and the operating company of the plant.
