The Bokaro Works (CPP) Coal Power Station is located at Marafari, Bokaro Steel City, Bokaro district, Jharkhand. The total installed capacity of Bokaro Works (CPP) Coal Power Station is 338 MWe.

This is a fully operating power plant and the plant is mainly used for co-generation load in Jharkhand. Here coal is used as the primary fuel and is a sub critical thermal type power plant. The electric power grid is mainly connected to the national grid and mercury control device is not used in this plant. The plant has a co-generation mode steam of 1880 tonnes per hour, out of which a rate of 660 tonnes/hour steam is supplied to BSL (Industry). The plant has 7 different units. The first unit is commissioned on 31-December- 1971 with an installed capacity of 12 MWe. The second and third unit has an installed capacity of 55 MWe and are commissioned on 13-July-1972 and 13-October-1973. The fourth, fifth and sixth units has an installed capacity of 60 MWe and are commissioned on 25-January-1986, 16-September-1988 and 31-March-1989 respectively. The seventh unit is commissioned on 02-September-2014 with an installed capacity of 36 MWe.

The turbine manufacturers are Kaluga Russia (unit 1), LMZ Russia (units 2 and 3), Zamech Poland (units 4,5,6) and Skoda, Czech Rep (unit 7). Electrosila Russia is the generator manufacturer of the plant. The turbine models used here are BPTG P-12-90-37 (unit 1), K-50-90-4 (units 2 and 3), 9K-66 (units 4,5,6) and BPTG PCSM006 071 (unit 7). This is a government joint venture ownership type power plant. The owners of the plant are Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) (holding 50% share) and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) (holding 50% share). Bokaro Power Supply Company Ltd (BPSCL) is the operating company of the power plant.
