Chandrapura Thermal Power Station Bokaro

The Chandrapura DVC Coal Power Station is located at Chandrapura, Bokaro district, Jharkhand, India. The total installed capacity of chandrapura DVC coal power station is 1250 MWe and the total firm capacity is 1190 MWe.

This is a fully operating power plant and the plant is mainly used as base load. This is a Sub critical thermal type plant and mercury control device is not used here. Coal and fuel oil are used as the primary and secondary fuels respectively. The main source of coal to the plant is from Mines operated by CCL. The plant has 5 different units in operating state and 3 units of the plant is decommissioned. The first three units of the plant initially has an installed capacity of 140 MWe, but are de-rated to 130 MWe. The first three units are commissioned on 30-September-1964, 30-November-1964 and 30-June-1968. The units 4, 5 and 6 are commissioned on 31-March-1974, 31-March-1975 and 29-March-1979 respectively, but these three units are decommissioned on 13-August-2010. These three units had an installed capacity of 120 MWe each. The seventh and eighth units have an installed capacity of 250 MWe and are commissioned on 04-November-2009 and 31-March-2010 respectively.

CE USA is the boiler manufacturer for the first three units. The turbine and generator manufacturer for these three units is GE USA. The boiler, turbine and generator manufacturer for seventh and eighth units is BHEL. This is a central government ownership type power plant. The owner and the operating company of the power plant is Damoder Valley Corporation (DVC).
