Chitrangi Power Project is a proposed 3,960 megawatt coal-fired power station in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. Chitrangi Power Project is an Under Construction Project. In October 2007, Reliance Power signed an agreement with the state government for the development of Chitrangi Power Project. The government provided priority status for this project and gives all support in the area of land and water sourcing and other approvals, clearances and so on. The project has got environmental clearance in May 2010. Soon the land acquisition had been finished. Government allotted to use the coal from coal mines of Mohar, Mohar Amlohri and Chhatrasal. Government also allotted the water from the Gopal River for the working of the project.

The type of the power project is Super Critical Technology. In Phase 1, six units of 660 Megawatt are proposed. The EPC contract of the project is acquired by the Reliance Infrastructure and the equipment for the implementation of projects is acquired by the M/S Shanghai Electrical Company of China. The approved investment for the erection of this thermal power plant is around INR 20,000 Crores (4 billion dollar). The beneficiary states of this power plant are the northern, southern and western states of India. Power generated in the plant is transferred to western and northern regions of the country is by central transmission utilities and dedicated transmission lines.

The approved capacity of this thermal power plant is 3960 Megawatt. The installed capacity of this thermal plant is also 3960 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power station is under construction. The source of coal for the generation of power is from Moher, Moher Almori extension and Chhatrasal coal mines. The source of water for the power plant is from Gopal River. The primary fuel used is Coal. The Chitrangi Power Project is owned and operated by Reliance Power. The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant are 3960 Megawatt (6 x 660 Megawatt). There are six units in Operation. They are from Unit 1 to Unit 6. All the units have an approved capacity of 660 Megawatt each. So the total installed capacity would be 3960 Megawatt. Earlier the project is estimated an approved investment of over INR 20,000 crores. But due to the lack of fund, the financial closure is begun and now the project is planned to be financed at a debt-equity ratio of 75:25.
