Essar Mahan Power Plant India

The Essar Mahan Coal Power Plant is located at Suhira, Bandhaura, Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh. The total installed capacity of the power plant is 1200 MWe.

This is a partially operating power plant and the power from the plant is distributed as 62.5% of its capacity will be supplied to Essar Hazira Steel plant and the remaining 37.5% capacity is used to state-owned power distribution companies in Madhya Pradesh. This is a Sub critical thermal type plant and coal is used as the primary fuel. Imported and domestic coal is the main source of coal and the electric power grid from the plant is connected to the regional grid. The power from the plant is distributed to the near substation to 400kV switchyard. The capital cost of the plant in the year 2013 is Rs. 120 Crores.

The plant has two different units and both the two units has an installed capacity of 600 MWe each. The first unit is commissioned on 01- December-2012 and the second unit is commissioned in the year 2015. The boiler, turbine and generator manufacturer of the plant is Harbin China and the turbine model used on both units is steam turbine. Essar Power is the owner and operating company of the plant and is a private ownership power plant. The construction contractor of the plant is Central Southern China Electric Power Design Inst, Areva, SImplex Infrastructures. The financers of the plant is ICICI Bank and Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and Punjab National Bank.
