The plant is mainly used for cogeneration load in Gujarat State and is a fully operating power plant. This can be considered as a base plant and refinery residue (oil, gas) is used as primary fuel. Refinery Residue is the main source of fuel and the electric power grid is mainly connected to capacitive / standalone grid. The steam supplied is mainly used for industrial purpose and here the steam is supplied to Essar Vadinar Refinery with 230 tonnes per hour (230 T/hr).

The power plant has only one unit and is commissioned on 01-April-2007. MHI Japan is the turbine manufacturer and Meidensha Corporation, Japan is the generator manufacturer of this plant. The plant has an overall installed capacity of 120 MWe. Air Cooled 2x43750 KVA is the generator model and 2x38.5 MW is the turbine model used here. Radiant, natural circulation, single drum is the boiler model and MHI Japan is the boiler manufacturer of this plant. This is a private ownership power plant and Essar Power is the owner of the plant. Essar Power (Vadinar Power Company Limited) is the operating company and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is the construction contractor of this plant.
