Facts about Major Agencies of the United Nations

International Labor Organization (ILO)

  • ILO, which formed in 1919, became the first agency of United Nations Assembly in 1946.
  • Geneva is the head quarters of ILO.
  • ILO got the Nobel Peace Prize in 1969.

Food – Agriculture Organization (FAO)

  • Nutrition Quality, Living Quality, Production of Agricultural Products, Distribution etc. should be improved. The living quality of village population should be improved were the main aims of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization).
  • Rome is the head quarters of this Organization.

United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

  • The main aim of UNESCO is Education among nations, more justice for the equivalence of scientific – culture sectors internationally, Human Rights, Freedom etc… would be confirmed.
  • The headquarters of UNESCO, which is formed in 1946 is located at Paris.
  • In 1984, America resigned from UNESCO. But America again joined and became a member of UNESCO in 1997.

World Health Organization (WHO)

United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF)

Mainly World Bank consists of Four Agencies.

  • The tributary society of World Bank is International Development Fund (IDA). It was formed in 1960.
  • International Financial Corporation (IFC) came into existence in 1956. The aim of this society is to progress the public investments of Under Development Countries.
  • Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) is the main aim of this society, which established in 1988, is for helping the money flow from Public Investors to Poor countries.

International Monetary Fund (IMF)

  • IMF is the banks of all countries and Central Banks.
  • IMF started its working from 1947 March 1, which came into existence in 1945 December 27.
  • International Commercial Development, protecting the exchange value of currencies of countries, economic co-operation, special drawing rights for member countries and giving importance to extra economics were the main aims of IMF.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

  • The headquarters of WMO formed in 1950 is Geneva.
  • The main aim of this society is international exchanging of information and services related with weather.

International Maritime Organization (IMCO)

  • The main aim of IMCO which came into existence in 1958 is the management of technical matters and stopping the Sea Waste depth.

World Trade Organization (WTO)

United Nations Eco-system Project (UNEP)

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

Universal Postal Union (UPU)

International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

  • UNCTAD is the society formed in 1964 December 30, with Geneva as its Head quarters.
  • The main aim of this council is strengthening the international trade with the aim of managing the economic growth of developing countries.

United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC)

  • The organization, UNHRC was formed with its head quarters at Geneva in 1946.
  • The main aim of Organization is Human Rights Protection.
  • The general assembly conducted in United Nations Assembly was in Paris in 1948 December 10, which became an important turning point in human history with its approval of Human Rights Declaration.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
