  • Father of Civil Aviation in India is J.R.D Tata. India's first licensed pilot is also J.R.D Tata (1929). JRD Tata was the first to make a solo flight and it was from Bombay to Karachi in 1931.
  • India's first commercial airline is Tata Airlines. Tata Airlines was founded by: J.R.D.Tata (1932). Tata Airlines renamed as Air India in 1946.
  • The first air transport in India started in 1911. The Indian history of Civil Aviation started in December 1912, with the establishment of the first domestic air route in between Karachi and Delhi.
