There are four main news agencies in India. They are Press Trust of India (PTI), United News of India (UNI), Samachar Bharati , Hindustan Samachar.

Press Trust of India was founded on August 27, 1947. PTI began functioning from February 1, 1949. It has bilateral news exchange arrangement with several news agencies of countries of Asia, Africa, Europe & Latin America. The first news agency in India is The Press Trust of India. Headquarters of PTI is at New Delhi. The only news agency in South Asia which operates its own communication satellite, an INSAT, to broadcast news and information is Press Trust of India.
