Station units allowed to continue subject to maintaining stack emission below 50 mg/NM3 and zero discharge from ash ponds for which action has been initiated.
The plant has four different units in operational state. Initially the first unit of the plant was commissioned in the year 1963 with an installed capacity of 30 MWe, but was decommissioned in the year 2000. Presently the plant has four different units in operating state and the first unit is commissioned on 31-December-1967. The next two units are commissioned on 29-February-1968 and 31-March-1968. These three units has an installed capacity of 62.5 MWe. The last unit is commissioned on 31-December-1971 with an installed capacity of 60 MWe. AVB Durgapur is the boiler manufacturer for the first three operating units and BHEL Hyderabad is the boiler manufacturer for the fourth unit. The generator and turbine manufacturer for the first three units is IGE USA and for the last unit is BHEL Hyderabad. This is a state government ownership type power plant.
