Kamuthi Solar Power Plant in India

The Kamuthi Solar PV Power Plant is situated at Kamuthi, Ramanathapuram district, 90 km from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The total installed capacity of the power plant is 648 MWe.

This is a fully operating power plant and the area occupied by the collectors is 5000000 sq. meters. The solar insolation kWh/m2/year of the plant is 2010. the Kamuthi solar PV power plant is the world's sixth largest solar park (as of 2018). The electric power grid from the plant is connected to the national grid and the plant is placed in farm land. the electric power from the plant is connected to the near substation as - two 230 kilovolt (kV) and three 110 kV outdoor switchyards. The capital cost of the plant in the year 2016 is Rs.4550 Crores.

The plant has only one unit with an installed capacity of 648 MWe. The unit is commissioned on 21-September-2016. The plant has 2,500,000 solar modules and 27,000 meters of structures, 576 inverters, 380,000 foundations, almost 6,000 km of cables and 154 transformers. Adani Power is the owner and ABB is the construction contractor of the power plant. The project was completed within 8 months by the help of around 8,500 workers, by an average installed rate of around 11 MW capacity per day.
