Karaikal Gas Turbine Power Station

The Karaikal Gas Turbine Power Station is mainly used as base load in Union Territory of Puducherry in India. The plant can be located at TR Pattinam, Nagore Main Road, Karaikal District, Pondicherry, India. The total installed capacity of the plant is 33 MWe.

This is a fully operating and a combined cycle gas turbine power plant. The plant is used for base load and natural gas is the primary fuel used here. The gas supply needed for 90% PLF is 0.16 and the linkage is 0.17. The main source of fuel is from gas wells at Narimanam in the Cauvery basin. This is done with an agreement with GAIL. The capital cost of the plant in 1999 is Rs. 133.04 Crores.

The plant has two different units. The first unit is commissioned on 24-October-1998 and has an installed capacity of 22.9 MWe. BHEL is the turbine and generator manufacturer for this unit and Gas Turbine-1 is the turbine model used here. The second plant has an installed capacity of 9.6 MWe and is commissioned on 03-January-2000. Steam Turbine-1 is the turbine model used in this unit and BHEL is the turbine and generator manufacturer. This is an IPP ownership power plant and Puducherry Power Corporation Limited is the owner of the plant owing the entire 100% share. The operating company of the plant is also Puducherry Power Corporation Limited.
