Karcham Wangtoo Power House

Karcham Wangtoo Power House is erected at the Sutlej River in between the Karcham and Wangtoo villages of Kinnaur district in the state ofHimachal Pradesh. It is commissioned in May 2011. The approved and installed capacity of the thermal power plant is 1000 Megawatt. The type of project is Major, since it is greater than 25 Megawatt. The status of power plant is completed and are operational. The source of water for the plant is Satluj River and the basin is Indus River till national border. The region where the hydroelectric project is located is North Hydroelectric Region. The power station is owned and functioned by the Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corporation Limited of Jaypee Group.

The beneficiary states of this project are Himachal Pradesh and other nearby states of North India. The project was completed in 2011. The Type of turbine used in the power plant is Francis. The Turbine of the power plant is manufactured by Andritz Hydro of Germany and the generator of the power plant is manufactured by Voith Siemens. The unit sizes of the power plant is 1000 Megawatt having 4 units of 250 Megawatt each. There are four units in operation and all the four units are commissioned with an installed capacity of 250 MW each.
