Kawas Thermal Power Plant is situated at Aditya Nagar, in Surat region in Gujarat. The power plant is one among the gas based power plants of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The gas for the power plant is obtained from GAIL HBJ Pipeline - South Basin Gas field. Source of water for the power plant is obtained from Hazira Branch Canal Singanpur Weir.
The Commission Date of Kawas Thermal Power Plant is 1992 March. The Approved Capacity of Kawas Thermal Power Station is 645 Megawatt. Also the installed capacity of Kawas Thermal Power Plant is 645 Megawatt. The primary fuel of this plant is Natural Gas. This power station is owned by National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The beneficiary states or union territories of Kawas Thermal Power Station are Chattisgarh, Dadar &Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The approved investment of Kawas Thermal Power Station is INR 1600 Crores. The Unit Sizes are 4 X 106 Gas Turbine and 2 X 110.5 Steam Turbine. The total units in operation are six. They are Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 4, Unit 5 and Unit 6. All the units are under the stage 1. So the total installed capacity of Kawas Thermal Power Station is 645 Megawatt.
The first unit (Gas Turbine) was commissioned in March 1992 with an installed capacity of 106 Megawatt. The second unit (Gas Turbine) was commissioned in May 1992 with an installed capacity of 106 Megawatt. The third unit (Gas Turbine) was commissioned in June 1992 with an installed capacity of 106 Megawatt. The fourth unit (Gas Turbine) was commissioned in November 1992 with an installed capacity of 106 Megawatt. Similarly the fifth unit (Steam Turbine) was commissioned in February 1993 with an installed capacity of 110.5 Megawatt. Also the sixth unit (Steam Turbine) was commissioned in March 1993 with an installed capacity of 110.5 Megawatt.
