Khaperkheda Thermal Power Station
Khaperkheda Thermal Power Plant is sited in the Khaperkheda village in the Nagpur district of Maharashtra in India. The power plant is one among the coal fired power plants of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company.
Khaperkheda Thermal Power Plant is commissioned in 1989 March. It has an approved capacity of 1340 Megawatt. Its installed capacity is also 1340 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is Operational. The source of coal for the production of power in the thermal plant is from Saoner and Dumri Khurd mines of Western Coalfields Limited. The source of water is from the Pench reservoir through a pond of Koradi Thermal Power Station. The primary fuel used is Coal. Maharashtra State Power Generation Company also called as MAHAGENCO owns and operates the Khaperkheda Thermal Power Station. The beneficiary states of this power plant is Maharashtra and its neighbouring states. The unit size of this thermal power plant were 1340 Megawatt (4 unit x 210 Megawatt + 1 unit x 500 Megawatt).
There are five units in Operation and they are from Unit 1 to Unit 5. The first unit is commissioned in 1989 March with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. The second unit is commissioned in 1990 January with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Similarly the third unit is commissioned in 2000 April with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. After that the fourth unit is commissioned in 2001 January with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Finally after 10 years, the fifth unit is commissioned in 2011 August with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt.
