The Korba Thermal Power Station is a coal-utilized power station located in Vikas Bhavan at the district of Korba East in the state, Chhattisgarh. The power station is operated by the Chhattisgarh Regional Power ProductionCorporation, openlypossessed generation utility formed in 2009 succeeding the reformation of the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board.It is owned by NTPC. The coal for the korba thermal power plant is obtained from Kusmundha and Gevra Mines. The water sourced for the power plant is from Hasdeo River.

Korba Thermal Power Station is commissioned in 1983. It has an approved capacity of 2600 Megawatt. Its installed capacity is also 2600 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is operational. The Coal for the generation of power is sourced from Kusmundha Block of Gevra Mines. The water is sourced from Hasdeo River. The primary fuel used for the production of power is coal. The owner of this thermal power plant is National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The beneficiary states of this Thermal Power Plant were Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The approved investment of this thermal power plant is INR 2500 Crore. There are three stages, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3. Stage 1 has 3 units of 200 Megawatts. Stage 2 has 3 units of 500 Megawatts and Stage 3 has one unit of 500 Megawatt.

There are seven units in operation. They are from Unit 1 to Unit 7. The first Unit is commissioned in March 1983 with an installed capacity of 200 Megawatt. The second Unit is commissioned in October 1983 with an installed capacity of 200 Megawatt. The third Unit is commissioned in March 1984 with an installed capacity of 200 Megawatt. The fourth Unit is commissioned in May 1987 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. The fifth Unit is commissioned in March 1988 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. The sixth Unit is commissioned in March 1989 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. At last, the seventh Unit is commissioned in December 2010 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt.IDA OPEC KFW (German Government Bank) provides the international assistance to this Thermal Power plant.
