Korba West Thermal Power Plant

The Korba West Thermal Power Plant is situated at 9 KM. from Korba city and is near the Hasdeo Barrage, Chattisgarh, India. The total installed capacity of the power plant is 1340 MWe.

This is a fully operating power plant and the power from the plant is mainly used as base load in Chattisgarh. This is a sub-critical thermal type power plant and the electric power grid is connected to the regional grid. Coal and fuel oil are used as primary and secondary fuels respectively. The main source of water for the plant is from Hasdeo Barrage and mercury control device is not used in this plant. The plant has five different units. The first four units has an installed capacity of 210 MWe and the fifth unit has an installed capacity of 500 MWe. The commissioned dates of these five units are:

Unit 1 – 21/August/ 1983

Unit 2 – 31/March/1984

Unit 3 – 28/March/1985

Unit 4 – 13/March/1986

Unit 5 – 22/March/2013

BHEL Haridwar is the boiler manufacturer for units 1,2 and 5. ABL is the boiler manufacturer for units 3 and 4. The turbine and generator manufacturer is BHEL Haridwar. This is a state government ownership type power plant. Chattisgarh SEB is the owner and operating company of the power plant.
