Kota Thermal Power Plant is Rajasthan's first chief coal-fired power plant. It is located on the west bank of the Chambal River in Kota in Rajasthan.

Kota Super Thermal Power Plant is commissioned in 01 April 1983. It has an approved capacity of 1240 Megawatt. The installed capacity of power plant is 1240 Megawatt. The status of the power plant is Operational. The water source for the cooling of power plant is obtained from Chambal River. The primary fuel used for the production of power is Coal and the secondary fuel is Fuel Oil. The type of plant is Sub Critical Thermal. The manufacturer of Boiler of the thermal power plant is BHEL Hyderabad, BHEL Bhopal and BHEL Haridwar. The owner and operator of the thermal power plant is Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL). There are seven units in Operation and they are from Unit 1 to Unit 7. In Stage 1, the first and second units are commissioned in 01 April 1983 and 01 April 1984 respectively with an installed capacity of 110 Megawatt. In Stage 2, the third and fourth units are commissioned in 11 March 1989 and 06 March 1990 respectively with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. In Stage 3, the fifth unit is commissioned in 18 July 1995 with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. In Stage 4, the sixth unit is commissioned in 30 July 2003 with an installed capacity of 195 Megawatt. Finally in Stage 5, the seventh unit is commissioned in 31 August 2009.
