Krishnapatnam Ultra Mega Power Project
Krishnapatnam Ultra Mega Power Project is one amongthe nine Ultra Mega Power Projects declared by the central government of the country as a part of a plan to add afurther 100,000 megawatts of generation capacity by the beginning of 2017 to the end of year 2017. The 4,000 megawatt Krishnapatnam project is erected in the state of Andhra Pradesh and is being established by Reliance Power.
The commission date of Krishnapatnam Ultra Mega Power Project is yet to be approved. The approved capacity of this thermal power plant is 4000 Megawatt. The installed capacity of this thermal power plant is also 4000 Megawatt. The status of the power project is currently Under Implementation. The source of coal for the production of power is imported coal from Indonesia. The primary fuel used is coal. The type of power project is Ultra Mega Power Project. Krishnapatnam Ultra Mega Power Project is owned and operated by the Reliance Power. The beneficial states of this thermal power plant are Andhra Pradesh and its nearest states.
The source of finance is a consortium of 12 banks lead by IDBI Bank. In June 2011, the project was shelved by the Reliance Power due to the hike of coal price by Indonesia. Reliance Power argues that the new Indonesian Coal Price Regulation will raise the price of coal in Indonesia. This will lead to the increase in the price of coal and would not meet the conditions set by the lenders, affecting its ability to meet the money flow supplies of project. In August 2014, Reliance Power met theAndhra government to revive the project. In September 2018, Reliance Power is willing to submit the acquired 2600 acres of land and other loses inquired. In return, they asked the state government to return back the bank guarantees and revoke the damages. The Andhra government is yet to take a decision on the matter.
