KSK Mahanadi Power Project:
The Mahanadi coal-based thermal power project is erected at about 125 kilometres away from the Morga II coal block in the district of Janjgir-Champa of state, Chhahattisgarh inthe country. The power plant is owned and operated by the KSK Energy venture.
The power project was originally planned for 1800Megawatt capacity but is organised for expansion due to the accessibility of further fuel from the GarePelma Sector III coal block. Its size will be doubled to 3600Megawatt by utilising the extra coal resources. The first unit with an installed capacity of 600Megawatt unit of the power plant was commissioned in 2013. The second unit is subsequently commissioned in the month of August in 2014.The Mahanadi project is one of the leading single green field projects in the state of Chhattisgarh. Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) buys the power produced by the thermal plant with the contract of bulk transmission agreement.
KSK Mahanadi Power Project is commissioned in 2013 with an approved capacity of 3600 Megawatt. Its installed capacity is also 3600 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is Operational. The source of coal for the production of power is obtained from Domestic and Imported Coal. The primary fuel used is coal. The type of project is Ultra Mega Power Project. The power plant is owned and controlled by the KSK Energy Ventures Limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal plant are Chhattisgarh and its neighbouring states. The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant are 3600 Megawatt (600 Megawatt x 6 units). There are three units in operation and they are Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3.
The first unit is commissioned in August 14, 2013 with an installed capacity of 600 Megawatt. After that the second unit is commissioned in August 26, 2014 with an installed capacity of 600 Megawatt. The third unit is commissioned in January 2018, with an installed capacity of 600 Megawatt. The fourth unit is under construction with a proposed capacity of 600 Megawatt. The fifth and sixth units are yet to be commissioned. The construction for Unit 5, with a proposed 600 Megawatt capacity is stalled. Also the construction for Unit 6, with a proposed 600 Megawatt capacity is stalled.
