Kuttalam Gas Turbine Power Station

The Kuttalam Gas Turbine Power Station is situated at Kuttalam. The exact location of the plant is Kuttalam, near Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu. The total installed capacity of the plant is 100 MWe.

The plant is at fully operating condition and is mainly used as base load in Tamil Nadu. This is a combined cycle gas turbine power plant. Here natural gas is used as the primary fuel. The gas supply needed for 90% PLF is 0.48 and the linkage is 0.35. The power from the station is connected to the regional grid and the main source of fuel is from GAIL India. The capital cost of the plant in 2003 is Rs. 352 Crores.

The plant has only two units. The first unit is commissioned on 27-November-2003 with an installed capacity of 64.2 MWe. The second unit has an installed capacity of 37.4 MWe and is commissioned on 24-March-2004. BHEL-PSSR is the turbine, generator and the boiler manufacturer of the plant. This is a state government ownership power plant and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) is the owner of the plant holding all the 100% share. the construction contractor of the plant is BHEL and the operating company of the plant is Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).
