Loktak Hydroelectric Project

Loktak Hydroelectric Project is erected in the Leimatak River in about 39 Km South of Imphal in Manipur in India. The power project is commissioned in 1983 with an approved and installed capacity of 105 MW. The type of project is Major as its capacity is greater than 25 MW. The name of dam, where the hydroelectric project is erected is Ithai Barrage. The main reservoir of the plant is Loktak Lake. The status of power plant is running and are operational. The river on which the hydroelectric project is erected is Leimatak River. The power project is situated in the North Eastern HE Regionof the country.

The power plant is owned by the central government and it is operated by the National Hydro Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC) of India. The beneficiary states of the loktak hydroelectric project are Manipur and its nearby states including, Nagaland, Assam and Mizoram. The completion of power project was done in 1983 and later on it started its operations. The total number of turbines in the plant is three and capacity per each Turbine is 35 MW. The manufacturer of both Turbine and Generator of the power plant is by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited of India. The unit size of power plant is 105 MW. The total units commissioned are three and all the three units are commissioned.
