Machkund Hydroelectric Project

Machkund Hydroelectric Project is located in the Machkund Dam of Koraput district in Odisha. The first unit of power project is commissioned in 1959 and the total installed capacity of power plant is 120 MWe. The hydroelectric project status of power plant is Operational. The construction of the power house is completed in 1959 and soon it started its operations. The Water Source for the generation of electricity in the plant is Machkund River and the basin, where the plant is located is Godavari. The structure type of power house is Dam. The project is erected in the Eastern Hydroelectric Region of the country and the East Flowing Rivers are the Hydroelectric Basin of the plant.

The power plant is a Joint Venture and is owned by the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The type of turbine used in the power house is Francis. There are six turbines used in the power house. The manufacturer of Turbines of first three units is by the Morgan Smith of USA and the turbines of fourth, fifth and sixth units is by the Jm Voith of Germany. The manufacturer of Generator is by the Westing House of USA. The unit size of plant is 120 MWe having 3 units of 17 MW each and 3 units of 23 MW each. There are six units in operation and all of them are commissioned.
