MAHAGENCO Power Plants in Maharashtra
Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO) is one of the top power generating company in India. It is the second leading power production company in the country after National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). The company is generating a total power of more than 14,000 Megawatts. The power generated is used for the domestic purposes in Maharashtra. It is simply called as MAHAGENCO.
THERMAL POWER STATIONS
1. Koradi Thermal Power Station
Koradi Thermal Power Station is located near Nagpur in Maharashtra. There are five units in operation. They are from Unit 6 to Unit 10. The sixth and seventh units have an installed capacity of 210 MW each and the three units from eighth to tenth units have an installed capacity of 660 MW each.
2. Nashik Thermal Power Station
Nashik Thermal Power Station is located at Eklahare village near Nashik in Maharashtra. There are three units in functional. They are from Unit 3 to Unit 5. The third to fifth units has an installed capacity of 630 Megawatt (210 Megawatt each)
3. Bhusawal Thermal Power Station
Bhusawal Thermal Power Station is located at about eight kilometer away from Bhusawal city of Jalgaon district in Maharashtra. The power plant has a total installed capacity of 1210 Megawatt. There are 3 units in Operation and they are from third to fifth units.
4. Paras Thermal Power Station
Paras Thermal Power Station is located at the Paras town of Akola district in Maharashtra. The third and fourth units are operational and having an entire capacity of 500 Megawatt (250 MW each).
5. Parli Thermal Power Station
Parli Thermal Power Station is located at Parali Vaijnath in the Beed district of Maharashtra. The forth to eighth units are operational and are having an entire capacity of 1170 Megawatt.
6. Khaparkheda Thermal Power Station
Khaparkheda Thermal Power Station is located at Nagpur district in Maharashtra. All the units are operational and have an installed capacity of 1340 Megawatt.
7. Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station
Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station is erected at Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. The third to ninth units are functional having an entire installed capacity of 2920 MW.
GAS TURBINE POWER STATION
1. Uran Gas Turbine Power Station
Uran Gas Turbine Power Station is located at the Uran town in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The power plant has an installed capacity of 432 Megawatt.
HYDRO POWER STATIONS
1. Koyna Hydro
Koyna Hydro Power Station is located near to Patan town in Satara district. It is the largest completed hydroelectric power plant in India. The installed capacity of the thermal power plant is 1956 Megawatt. In first stage, 4 units are operational with a capacity of 70 MW for each units. In second stage, also 4 units are operational with a capacity of 80 MW for each units. In third stage, 4 more units are operational with a capacity of 80 MW for each units. Finally in the fourth stage, four more units are operational with a capacity of 250 MW for each units. The Koyna Dam foot have the capacity of 2 x 18 MW.
2. Ghatghar Pump Storage
Ghatghar Dam is located in the Ghatghar village of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra. There are two units in power station having 125 Megawatt each. The dam is generating a capacity of 250 Megawatt hydroelectric power.
