Malwa Thermal Power Plant

The Malwa Thermal Power Plant is situated at Purni Village of Khandwa District in Madhya Pradesh, India. The total installed capacity of Malwa Thermal Power Plant is 1200 MWe.

This is a super-critical thermal power plant and the power from the plant is mainly used for base load in Khandwa district. Here coal is used as the primary fuel. The main source of coal for the power plant is from Collieries of Korba Raigarh area of SECL. The water for the plant is taken from Indira Sagar Dam with a total of 8750 cubic meters per hour and the electric power grid from the plant is connected to the regional grid. The name of the substation connected is SSTPP – PITHAMPUR, CHHEGAON. The plant has two special units and both the two units have an installed capacity of 600 MW each. The first unit is commissioned on February of 2014 and the second unit is commissioned on 15 October 2014. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited is the boiler manufacturer for the plant. Here steam turbine is used for the generation of electricity in the plant. The turbine and generator manufacturer of the plant is also BHEL. The Boiler Model/Type of the plant is Supercritical and the owner of the plant is Madhya Pradesh State Government. The Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board is the operating company of the plant.
