Nagarjuna Sagar Tail Pond Dam Hydroelectric Project

The Nagarjunsagar Tail Pond Hydroelectric Project was located at Satrasala in Nalgonda district, Telangana. The total installed capacity of the project is 50 MWe and the project was commissioned in the year 2017. This is a major type project and the project is under construction state. The hydroelectric basin for the project is from east flowing rivers and the type of powerhouse is surface type. The water needed for the project is mainly taken from the Krishna river and southern HE region is the hydroelectric region used for the project.

The plant has two different units and both these two units are commissioned in the year 2017. These two units have an installed capacity of 25 MWe each. The hydroelectric project uses 2 penstocks and the length and diameter of the penstock are 54.3 m and 6.60 meters respectively. The turbine capacity of the project is 25 MWe each and the specific speed is 264 mkw. Andra Pradesh and Telangana are the beneficiary states of the project. The purpose of the dam for the project is irrigation and this is an earthen type dam. The length and height of the dam are 592 m and 29 m respectively. The spillway capacity of the dam is 173 cumec and the spillway gates are of log type. The seismic zone of the dam is Seismic Zone-II and as per Parliamentary Constituency, the dam can be considered as Narasaraopet. This is a state government ownership type project and Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) is the operating company of the project.
