Nashik Thermal Power Station is sited at the Eklahare village close toNashik city in Maharashtra. The power plant is one among the coal fired power plant of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company. The Nasik Mahagenco Thermal Power Station is a 910 Megawatt coal plant with an expansion of 660 Megawatt is proposed, but it is later shelved.
Nashik Thermal Power Station is commissioned in August 1970. It has an approved capacity of 910 Megawatt. The installed capacity of this thermal power plant is also 910 Megawatt. The Status of this thermal power plant is Operational. The coal is sourced from the Mahanadi coal blocks by Mahaguj Collieries limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Maharashtra and its neighbouring States. The Unit size of this thermal power plant is 910 Megawatt (140 Megawatt x 2 units + 210 Megawatt x 3 units). Totally there are six units - 3 units in Operation, 2 units Stopped for Renovation and one is shelved. In Stage 1, there are two units – Unit 1 and Unit 2. The first unit was commissioned in August 1970 with an installed capacity of 140 Megawatt and the second unit was commissioned in March 1971 with an installed capacity of 140 Megawatt. Both of the Units are Stopped for Renovation.
In Stage 2, there are 3 units – Unit 3, Unit 4 and Unit 5. The third unit is commissioned in April 1979 with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Similarly the fourth unit is commissioned in July 1980 with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. The fifth unit is commissioned in January 1981 with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. All the 3 units of Stage 2 are operational. The sixth unit with a capacity of 660 Megawatt in Stage 3 are proposed. But it is later shelved. The source of financing estimated for Unit 6 is about INR 4390 crore. The 20 percent of this estimation is contributedby Maharashtra and rest from loans guaranteed by the state.
