Kayamkulam (Rajiv Gandhi) Gas CCPP India

Kayamkulam (Rajiv Gandhi) Gas CCPP Power Plant is situated at Choolatheruvu, Alappuzha District, Kerala. The total installed capacity of the plant is 360 MWe and the firm capacity is 350 MWe.

This is a fully operating and a combined cycle gas turbine power plant. The plant is used as a base load in Kerala and the electric power grid is mainly connected to the regional grid. Here naphtha is used as the primary fuel and light fuel oil/diesel is used as the secondary fuel. Imported/Indigenous naphtha is the main source of fuel and water from the river Achankovil is the main source of water. the capital cost of the plant in the year 1999 is Rs. 1189.94 crores.

The plant has three different units. The first two units has an installed capacity of 115.3 MWe and the third unit has an installed capacity of 119.4 MWe. The first unit is commissioned on 02-November-1998 and the second and third units are commissioned on 28-February-1999 and 30-October-1999 respectively. GE is the turbine manufacturer and BHEL is the generator manufacturer for all the three units. The different turbine models used are: Gas Turbine -1 9001E, Gas Turbine -2 9001E and Steam Turbine -1 (for units 1,2 and 3 respectively). Vogt-NEM is the boiler manufacturer of the plant. This is a central government ownership power plant and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is the owner of the plant having all the 100% share. This is a world bank financed project and NTPC is the operating company of the plant.
