Obra Hydroelectric Power Plant

Obra Hydroelectric Power Plant is erected in the Obra village of Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh. The power plant is commissioned in 1965 with an approved and installed capacity of 99 MW. The hydroelectric project status of power plant is Operational. The water source for the generation of power in the plant is Rihand / Renuka River. The hydroelectric basin of the power plant is Ganga Basin. The power plant is situated in the Northern Hydroelectric Region of the country. The Dam is built like an earth and rockfill dam with concrete spillway.

The power plant is owned by the Uttar Pradesh State Government and the operator of the plant is Uttar Pradesh Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited. The Beneficiary States of the power project are Uttar Pradesh and its nearby states. The construction of power plant is finished in 1965 and after that it started the generation of power in the plant. The Configuration of Power house is having 3 units of 33 MW power generating Vertical Kaplan. There are three turbines in the plant. The capacity per turbine of power plant is 33 MW. The type of turbine used in the plant is Kaplan. The maker of both turbine and generator of the plant are by the Associated Electrical Industries and HEL.
