Palatana Gas Thermal Power Plant

The Palatana Gas Power Plant is situated in Palatana, Udaipur, Gomati District, Tripura. The total installed capacity of the plant is 727 MWe.

This is a fully operating and is a combined cycle gas turbine power plant. The plant is used as base load in Gomati district and natural gas is used as the primary fuel. The electric power from the plant is mainly connected to the regional grid and the substation connected to the plant is a 650km-long, 400kV D/C transmission line was laid from the plant site at Palatana, Tripura to Bongaigaon in Assam. the main source of fuel for the plant is from ONGC gas fields in Tripura.

The plant has two different units. The first unit is commissioned on 03-January-2013 and the second unit is commissioned on 16-November-2014. Both the two units has an installed capacity of 363.3 MWe. BHEL-GE is the turbine and generator manufacturer of the plant. The turbine models used are CCGT-1 9001F (unit 1) and CCGT-2 9001F (unit 2). BHEL-GE is also the boiler manufacturer of the plant. This is a Government JV ownership power plant and BHEL is the construction contractor. The owners of the plant are: ONGC (having 50% share), Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited and Government of Tripura. ONGC Tripura Power Company Ltd is the operating company of the plant. The plant is also supplying power to the North Eastern states (power deficit areas).
