Panki Thermal Power Station Kanpur
Panki Thermal Power Station is a retired 220-megawatt (MW) coal fuelled power station in Uttar Pradesh, India, owned and operated by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam of State Government.A new 660 Megawatt unit is also planned at the site.
The Panki Thermal Power Station is commissioned in October 1967. The Commissioned Date of thermal power plant is October 1967. The approved capacity of this power plant is 220 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 220 Megawatt. The Status of this thermal power plant is Operational. The source of coal for the generation of power is coal mines of BCCL, ECL by means of Railways. The source of water is Adjacent Canal. The Power Plant is mainly used for the generation of Base Load. The primary fuel used is Coal and the secondary fuel is Fuel Oil.
The type of plant is Sub Critical Thermal. The Manufacture of Boiler is by the Wagner Biro Austria (Unit 1 & 2) and BHEL Hyderabad (Unit 3 & 4). Also the Manufacture of Turbine is by JUGE Yugoslavia (Unit 1 & 2) & BHEL Hyderabad (Unit 3 & 4). The manufacturer of generator is also by JUGE Yugoslavia (Unit 1 & 2) & BHEL Hyderabad (Unit 3 & 4). The Power Plant is owned and operated by the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL). The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Uttar Pradesh and its neighbouring states. The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant are 660 Megawatt (1 unit x 660 Megawatt). There are 5 units, and among them, one unit is new and rest are either decommissioned or retired.
The first unit is commissioned in October 1967 with an installed capacity of 32 Megawatt and this unit is decommissioned in 1991. The second unit is commissioned in August 1968 with an installed capacity of 32 Megawatt. This unit is also decommissioned in 2005. The third unit is commissioned in November 1976 with an installed capacity of 110 Megawatt. Also the fourth unit is commissioned in August 1968 with an installed capacity of 110 Megawatt. Both third and fourth units are retired. As a part of future expansion, a new unit is introduced with an approved capacity of 660 Megawatt.
