Pykara Pushep Hydroelectric Power Plant

Pykara (PUSHEP) Ultimate Stage Hydroelectric Power Plant is erected in the Pykara, Mukurthi and Sandynallah Rivers of Nilgris district in Tamil Nadu. The power project is commissioned in 2005 with an installed capacity of 150 MW. The type of project is ‘Major’ and the type of plant is Water released from another project is utilized by this plant. The Main Reservoir of the plant is Pykara Mukurthi and Sandynallah reservoirs. The Hydroelectric Region where the power station is located is Southern Hydroelectric Region of the country. The power station has an Underground powerhouse having 3 units of 50 MW turbines. The source of water for the generation of power is from Pykara, Mukurthi and Sandynallah Rivers.

The power project is owned by the Tamil Nadu State Government under the control of Tamil State Electricity Board. The Operating Company of the power station is Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO). The beneficiary state of the power plant is Tamil Nadu. The power project is completed and started its operations in 2005. There are three turbines in the power house and capacity per Turbine of power house is 50 MW. The Unit Sizes of the power plant is 150 MW. There are three units in operation and all the three units are commissioned.
