Ranjit Sagar Dam Hydroelectric Project

The Ranjit Sagar Dam Hydroelectric Project is commissioned in 12 August 2000. It has an approved and installed capacity of 600 MW. The type of project is Major. The current status is completed and are fully Operational. The source of water for the generation of power is Ravi River and the basin is Indus River. The name of main reservoir is Ranjit Sagar. The hydroelectric region of the power plant is north. The power plant is owned and functioned by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited.

The Beneficiary States of the power plant are Punjab and Jammu Kashmir. The type of Power House is Surface. The power project was completed in 2000. There are four turbines in the power plant. The capacity per each turbine is 150 Megawatt. So the total installed capacity of Power project is 600 MW. The type of Turbine used is Vertical Shaft Francis from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. BHEL India is the manufacturer of both Turbine and Generator of the Power Plant.

The Unit Sizes of the power plant are 600 MW (150 MW x 4 units). There are four units in operation and all the 4 units are commissioned. The first unit is commissioned in 12 August 2000 with an installed capacity of 150 Megawatt. Similarly the second, third and fourth units are commissioned in 12 October 2000, 20 August 2000 and 15 September 2000 respectively with an installed capacity of 150 Megawatt for each units.
