Rihand Hydroelectric Project

Rihand Hydroelectric Project is erected in the Pipri village of Sonbhadra district in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. The power project is commissioned in 1955. It has a total installed capacity of 300 MW. The hydroelectric status of the power plant is Operational. The Source of water for the generation of power is Rihand River. The Main Reservoir where the power project is erected is Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar. The power station is located in the Northern Hydroelectric Region of India.

Rihand Hydroelectric Project is owned by State Government of Uttar Pradesh under the control of Uttar Pradesh Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited. The name of dam is Rihand dam or Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar dam and the type of dam is concrete built gravity dam. The beneficiary states of the power project are Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. The power project is completed and started its working in 1955. The total number of turbines in the plant is six with a capacity for each turbine of 300 MW. The type of turbine used in the power house is Francis Vertical Shaft. The maker of both Turbine and Generator of power plant is English Electric Ltd. The Unit Size of the power plant is 300 MW having six units of 50 MW each. . All the six units are commissioned.
