Rosa Thermal Power Plant is commissioned with a 1,200 Megawatt thermal power project of four units with 300 Megawatt for each unit. It is located in the Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The Rosa project characterises the largest self-financing sector venture in Uttar Pradesh and is the first new thermal power plant in Uttar Pradeshin 20 years. The power plant is developed in two stages. The first phase of Rosa Phase 1 started its commercial operation in 12th March 2010. The power company is undertaken by Rosa Power Supply Company Limited. Earlier this company was a part of Aditya Birla Power Company. But later it is transferred to Reliance Power. An investment of 3000 Crore is done for the construction of plant in Phase 1.The machinery for the construction of all units are brought from Shanghai Electric Corporation.

Rosa Thermal Power Plant Shahjahanpur is commissioned in 2009. The approved capacity of this thermal power plant is 1200 Megawatt. The installed capacity of this thermal power plant is also 1200 Megawatt. The status of this Rosa Thermal Plant is Operational. The source of coal for the generation of power is from Ashoka Coal mines of Central Coalfields Limited. The coal mines are found in the state of Jharkhand and the coal will be conveyed by Railways covering a distance of about 870 kilometers to the Rosa Thermal Power Plant.The water is sourced from Garrah River, which is about one kilometre away from Power Plant. The primary fuel used for the thermal power plant is Coal. Rosa Thermal Power Plant is owned and operated by the Tata Power. The whole electricity produced is sold to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. After that the tariffs are decided by Electricity Regulatory Commission of UP. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Uttar Pradesh and its neighbouring states.

There are two units each in Stage 1 and Stage 2, the first and second unit in Stage 1 and third and fourth unit in Stage 2. The unit size is 4 units x 300 Megawatts. There are four units in operation. They are from Unit 1 to Unit 4. The first unit is commissioned in 2009 December with an installed capacity of 300 Megawatt. Similarly, the second unit is commissioned in 2010 March with an installed capacity of 300 Megawatt. The third unit is commissioned in 2011 December with an installed capacity of 300 Megawatt. Finally the fourth unit was commissioned in 2012 March with an installed capacity of 300 Megawatt.
