Torrent (Sabarmati and AECO) Coal Power Station

The Torrent Coal Power Station is situated at Sabarmati of Gujarat in India. The total installed capacity of this Sabarmati Thermal Power Station is 400 MW.

This is a sub critical thermal power plant and the power plant is used for Base/Intermediate Load. Here Coal is used as the primary fuel and fuel oil is used as secondary fuel. The plant has five installed units having Boiler, Turbine and Generator in the power house. The first two units have an installed unit of 30 MW each. The third unit has a capacity of 120 MW and rest of the units (fourth and fifth) has an installed capacity of 110 MW each. The first unit is commissioned in 31 January 1962 and the rest of the commissioned date of all units is written below.

Babcock and Wilcox of UK is the boiler manufacturer of first two units and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) of Hyderabad is the boiler manufacturer for the rest of the two plants. The turbine and generator manufacturer of the plant is AEI (Associated Electrical Industries) of UK for first two units and BHEL Hyderabad is the turbine and generator manufacturer for rest of the units. The owner of the plant is Torrent Power and Ahmedabad Electric Co. Limited (AECO). The type of ownership is Independent Power Producer. The Torrent Power is the operating company of the plant.
