Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station
Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Plant is erected near the Birsinghpur railway station on the Bilaspur Katni division of South East Central Railway. It is sited at Umaria district of the state. The thermal plant is one among the coal fired power plants of Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company Limited. This Power Station has a total capacity of 1340 Megawatt. The primary unit of this thermal power station was commissioned in the month of March in 1993.
Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station is commissioned in 26 March 1993 with an approved capacity of 1340 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 1340 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power station is Operational. The source of coal for the generation of power is procured by Rail from South Eastern Coal Fields. The source of water is procured from nearby Johila Dam. The primary fuel used for the generation of power is Coal. Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station is owned and operated by the Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company Limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Madhya Pradesh and its neighbouring states. There is a commercial monitoring cell is working inside the Power Station, in which it calculates the profit as well as losses inquired by the power plant.
The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant are 1340 Megawatt (210 Megawatt x 4 units + 500 Megawatt x 1 unit). There are five units in operational and they are from Unit 1 to Unit 5 in three Stages. Stage 1 has two units, Unit 1 and Unit 2. The first unit is commissioned in 26 March 1993, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Similarly the second unit is commissioned in 27 March 1994, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Stage 2 has two units – Unit 3 and Unit 4. The third unit is commissioned in 28 February 1999, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. The fourth unit is commissioned in 23 November 1999, with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Stage 3 has unit 5, which was commissioned in 18 June 2007 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt.
