Sengulam Hydroelectric Project is located in the Vellathooval (Right bank of Muthirappuzha) of Devikulam in Idukki district. The project is commissioned in the year 1954 with an approved and installed capacity of 48 MW. The type of project is Major, since its capacity is greater than 25 MW. The Sengulam Hydroelectric Project also called as chenkulam hydroelectric project is owned by the Kerala State Government and the operating company of the power plant is Kerala State Electricity Board. There are four units in operation and all the four units are commissioned. The first to fourth units are commissioned in 01 May 1954, 25 July 1954, 11 November 1954 and 05 January 1955 respectively. After Renovation of Power Plant, the units are changed from 12 MW to 12.8 MW for each units. So the total installed capacity is 51.2 MW.

Regular buses and taxi are accessible from Idukki town to the power station.
