Servalar Hydroelectric Power Plant

Servalar Hydroelectric Power Plant is erected in the Servalar River in Myndanthurai Tiger Reserve of Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu. The power project is commissioned in 1986 with a total installed capacity of 20 MW. The basin of power plant is servalar river. The hydroelectric basin of the plant is east flowing rivers. The type of project is ‘small’, since its capacity is less than 25 MW. The type of plant is having a Servalar Dam, which is interlinked with Karaiyar Dam by 3323m tunnel. The Status of power plant is Operational. The Main Reservoir of the power plant is Servalar Reservoir. The power plant is erected in the Southern Hydroelectric Region of the country. The power plant is having a Surface powerhouse at toe of dam, which is the configuration of the power house. The water source for the power plant is supplied by the Servalar River.

The Owner of the Servalar Hydroelectric Power Plant is Tamil Nadu Government and the controller of the power plant is Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Limited (TANGEDCO). The Beneficiary State of the power plant is Tamil Nadu. The power project of plant is completed in 1986 and soon it started its operations. The type of turbine in the power house is Vertical Kaplan. The manufacturer of both Turbine and Generator of the plant is Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited of Haridwar in India. There is only one turbine in the power house and its capacity is 20 MW. The unit size of the plant is 20 MW having only one unit and it is commissioned in 1986.
