The Social Justice Department under Kerala Government was established in 9 September 1975 for the realization of social welfare schemes and services in the state.
The Department has approved and executed all the Central Government acts like Domestic Violence Act (helps women from household violence) and Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.
Kerala State Women's Development Corporation was established and come into effect in 1988.
Kerala State Handicapped Persons' Welfare Corporation was come into effect from 1979 onwards.
Kerala State Social Welfare Board helps the charitable societies, meant for growing their responsibility in the area of children welfare and women empowerment.
Kerala Social Security Mission
The mission was established on 2008 October 14.
Its headquarters is Thiruvananthapuram.
It is a charitable society funded by the Social Justice Department.
It is first of this kind in India to provide social security needs of the poor, chronically ill, senior citizens and other needy group of the society.
Kerala State Council for Child Welfare
Kerala State Council for Child Welfare is established and come into effect in 1940, which is affiliated to Indian Council for Child Welfare.
Here the State Government is the Patron, the State Chief Minister is designated as President and the State Minister for Social Welfare is designated as Vice President.
National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH)
The Society was set up by the Government of Kerala. It was established on 23rd March 1997.
It is registered under Travancore-Cochin Literacy and Scientific Charitable Societies Act, 1955.
Its mission is to provide complete, flexible organization for the entire rehabilitation and education of individuals with speech and hearing impairment.
Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)
It was launched in 1975.
It is India’s chief social welfare scheme to undertake starvation and poor health conditions in children below the age of 6 years and their mothers. This service is also available for adolescent girls.
Anganwadi
Anganwadi means "courtyard shelter".
Anganwadi centers provide a range of services for children, adolescent girls, lactating mother, pregnant woman etc.
The Anganwadis function as local community resource centers.
Anganwadi Center is managed by an Anganwadi Worker, assisted by a Helper. Both are honorary workers.
Anganwadi Karyakarta Bima Yojana is the insurance cover to the Aganwadi Workers and Helpers.
Malabar has the Highest number of Anganwadies.
ASHA
Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) is a society of health workers appointed by the central government under the management of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). It is also working as a branch of National Rural Health Mission (NHRM).
This mission was started in 2005.
ASHAs are the name given for the local women who are practiced to act as health teacher and promoter in their society.
Thalolam
Thalolam is a scheme launched to provide free medical treatment to children from poor families suffering from serious ailments. It was started on January 1, 2010.
Social Welfare Schemes
The project "Hunger Free City" aims to provide highly subsidized meals once a day to the public at designated centres in a city. Kozhikode is the first city chosen for this.
Snehasparsham is the project to give Rs. 1000 per month as pension to unwed mothers.
Annadayini is to provide lunch to malnutritioned tribals.
Aswasa Kiranam is the scheme proposed for providing monthly pension of Rs. 600 to care givers of bed ridden patients.
Cancer Suraksha Scheme, Sanadha Balyam, Mangalya Scheme for widow remarriage etc are the other schemes provided by Social Welfare Department.
The Scheduled Castes Development Department works for the uplift of the Scheduled Castes. In this Department, OEC, OBC and other economically backward forward castes are eligible for educational aids.
e-grantz
e-grantz is an internet related grants distribution scheme. Their web based solutions includes the timely disbursement of educational finance support to all the post metric students of the castes of SC, ST, OBC as well as financially weaker sections in the state.
KIRTADS
The full form of KIRTADS is Kerala Institute for Research Training and Development Studies. Its beneficiary was the communities of SC and ST.
KIRTADS perform research to support development in the scheduled communities in the state.
It is a Governmental organization working under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Ministry and works as a separate Directorate.
It is located at Chevayur in Kozhikode.
The Ethnological Museum
It is Informative and interesting storehouse for people who want to know about the Tribes of Kerala. The Museum is a part of the KIRTADS. It was established in 1973.
It consists of a huge collection of art works, dresses, jewelers, domestic utensils, nets and traps, timber statues, farming tools, musical instruments, and traditional stuffs of all the Tribal communities in the state.
It also displays of the various cultural features and backgrounds of each and every Tribe living in Kerala.
Minority Cell
It was constituted in 2008 under Minority Welfare Department as a part of implementation of Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee Report, and consequent to Paloli Mohammed Kutty Committee report.
Ammathottil
It is a formed by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare.
Ammathottil provides care and services for abandoned children.
A "Baby Cradle" was built for the purpose of leaving the unwanted children for their mothers rather than leaving them in trash receptacles.
It is located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram district.
