Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is the largest hydroelectric plant carried out in the country so far and is a run of river system on the tributary, Subansiri. The Project is erected near to North Lakhimpur on the border of both states, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The expectedyearly energy generation from the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is 7421 million units in a 90 percentdependable year.

The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project has an approved capacity of 2000 Megawatt. The Type of Project is Major, since it is generating more than 25 Megawatt. The Status of the power plant is Under Construction. The source of water for the generation of power in the hydroelectric power station is Subansiri River. The basin of the project is Brahmaputra. The hydroelectric region of the power plant is North Eastern Hydro Electric Region. The owner of the power plant is National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.

The beneficiary states of this hydroelectric power plant are Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Nagaland andMizoram. There are eight turbines in the power station. The unit sizes of the power plant is 2000 Megawatts. Each of the units have an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt. There are 8 units in the power station. The project cost of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is estimated at 6285.33 Crores (as on December 2002).

How to Reach –The power plant is located close to the North Lakhimpur in the Lakhimpur district on the border of both states, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. You can arrive this hydroelectric power station via car, bus, rail or plane. You would get local transport buses and taxi services from Lakhimpur to the power station. Lakhimpur city is the nearest well-connected city to power station. Nagaon Railway is the nearest well-connected Railway Station and Lilabari Airport also called as Lakhimpur Airport, located in North Lakhimpur is the nearest Airport. Lailabari Airport is just about 8 kilometer away from Lakhimpur.
