Surat Lignite Power Plant

The Surat Lignite Power Plant is situated at Nani Naroli village of Mangrol, in Surat District of Gujarat, India. The total installed capacity of Surat Lignite Power Station is 500 MW.

This is a sub critical thermal power plant. Here Lignite is used as the primary fuel. The main source of coal is from Lignite captive mine at Mangrol mine with 2.4 MTPA capacity. The electric power grid is connected to the national grid and the operator is Gujarat Electricity Board. The name of the substation connected to the plant is 220 kV switchyard to GUVNL. The water source of power plant is from wells fed by Tapti River. The plant has four installed units and the commissioned dates of these units are,

Unit 1 – 6 November 1999

Unit 2 – 16 January 2000

Unit 3 – 12 April 2010

Unit 4 – 23 April 2010

All the four units have an installed capacity of 125 MW each. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and LLB Germany are the boiler manufacturers for the plant. Here the plant is using Lignite as fuel. The turbine and generator manufacturer of the plant is BHEL India. The Boiler Model/Type of the plant is Sub-Critical. The owner of the plant is Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd. (GIPCL). The type of ownership is IPP (Supplies power to GUVNL through PPA). The Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd is also the operating company of the plant.
