Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Plant
Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Station is the state’s first super thermal power station. It is erected at about 27 kilometres away from Suratgarh town in the district of Ganganagar district. The power plant is owned and controlled by the RVUNL. The power plant has a total 6 units that can produce 250 megawatts each and 2 more units of 660 megawatts each, which are under construction.
Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Plant is commissioned in May 1998. The Approved Capacity of this thermal power plant is 2820 Megawatt and the Installed Capacity is also 2820 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is Operational. The source of water for the cooling of thermal plant is Indira Gandhi Canal, which is just north of power plant. The primary fuel used is coal and the secondary fuel used is Fuel Oil. The Type of Plant is Sub Critical Thermal. The manufacture of boiler in the plant is done by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. Also the manufacture of Turbine and Generator in the plant is done by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. The power plant is owned and operated by the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL). The beneficiary states of this power plant are Rajasthan and its nearby states.
The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant is 2820 Megawatt (6 x 220 MW + 2 x 660 MW). There are six units in operation and two are Under Construction. In stage 1, the first and second units are commissioned in May 1998 and 28 March 2000 respectively with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt for each units. In stage 2, third and fourth units are commissioned in 15 January 2002 and 31 July 2002 respectively with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt for each unit and in Stage 3, Unit 5 is commissioned in 30 June 2003 with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt. The sixth unit is commissioned in Stage 4 in 29 August 2009 with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt and in stage 5, both seventh and eighth units are commissioned in the year 2016 with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt and was under construction.
