Suruliyar Hydroelectric Power Plant

Suruliyar Hydroelectric Power Plant is erected in the Suruliar River of Theni District in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The power plant is commissioned in 1978 with a total installed capacity of 35 MW. The basin, where the power project is completed is Vaigai River. The type of project is ‘Major’ due to its capacity is more than 25 MW. The type of power plant is like a Dam on a lake. The status of power plant is operational. Eravangalar reservoir is the main reservoir, where the plant is located. The power plant is located in the hydroelectric region of southern part of the country. Suruliar River, which is a tributary of Vaigai River, is the water source of the power plant.

The owner of Suruliyar Hydroelectric Power Plant is Tamil Nadu State Government and the Operator of the power plant is TANGEDCO. The beneficiary places of the power plant are Theni and its neighboring districts. The completion of construction of power plant was in 1978 and soon after that, it started its operations. The type of power house in the plant is surface powerhouse. The type of turbine used in the power plant is Horizontal Impuse Pelton. The manufacturer of turbine of power plant is by the Voith Austria and the manufacturer of generator of power plant is by the Elin Union Austria.
